Kitten Picks for the New Year ...

I love this time of year, it encourages us to get our closets in order for Spring and while we're at it, why not our homes as well? I am in the process of buying items for my new place and found a great site for some lighting (of course the search for bedding is going to be interesting and you guys will get to hear what thoughts I have on this as well)! Although Tiffany is in my jewelry box, it will soon be found on my tables as well. When I say Tiffany's I am referring to the lamps. The Tiffany lamp is something that I have started seeing throughout people's homes and I have some favorite's, such as the Dale Tiffany Belle which is a nice mixture of contemporary and very old world style at the same time. I think that these are fabulous conversational pieces and will definitely have people asking about your style tastes when it comes to decorating. This month, I will share a variety of items about my designing in addition to what you have come to love on this site with runway. In addition, Fashion Week is only a few weeks away - get excited!

The Golden Globes - What a Treat

For those of you that are avid readers of my other blog, See Pretty Things, you know that I have recently attended the Accessories Show which is a kick off of sorts for a variety of fashion! I attended the trade shows and next month, I will not only revisit more shows but will be at Fashion Week in NYC. With that said, this is also the season of glamor that can only be provided within its full glory at awards shows such as the Golden Globes. As a rule, I am not a fan of awards shows and tend to watch E! to see the Red Carpet and who attended the after parties; however, tonight I was enthralled in actually seeing the show and saw some highlights courtesy of Yahoo! I have some highlights that I thought I would share and hopefully as more pictures become available I can include more.

This year's red carpet did seem to be a return to the goddess look. Every one had something of the ultra feminine with flowing outfits that really made them take on their own version of what it meant to go out to a glam affair (as opposed to some occasions where people seem to miss the mark and wear outfits that don't seem to fit the event)

Like everyone else, I am a fan of the cast of Grey's Anatomy. I love the show and am pleased to see the ladies of the hospital that we have all come to love definitely took the time to dress the part! I was equally as pleased when I saw the writer on the stage, I loved her black and white dress and thought that this was a nice departure from the scrubs and relaxed outfits that we tend to see on the show.

My second cast favorite photo was for Ugly Betty. Although I do not watch this show regularly, when it is on - I am drawn to it! My favorite episode was the Halloween one. I happened to catch it on a night that I was prepping to go out and found out what everyone loved about this show. Once again, the cast looks fabulous and Vanessa and Selma definitely steal the show but everyone looks super glam!

My favorite awards for the night went to Helen Mirren for Best Actress in a TV Series (loved her in Elizabeth 1 on HBO) and for a drama (Queen). I have posted about Ms Mirren before and as I said previously, the article about her in W this past summer was amazing and after watching Elizabeth 1 I was convinced about the dynamic ability of this actress. I love this dress because it is such a blend of a great V cut in the front with a bit of sheering which is sexy without going over the top. At the same time, I love how the dress flows and has this peek a boo affect in the back which you saw when she accepted her awards. Of course, the color was fabulous and she looked nothing less than regal in this stunning dress.

Ms Lopez provided another favorite of the night with her Grecian black gown that had a few peek a boos with all its class in tact. I think it had just the right amount of shimmer to it while also having these sexy look and great movement as well. I love this style and think that she looked stunning.

The Lady in Red was definitely regal. I love that Mary chose this red dress and although she stuck out from the crowd, whoever the stylists were - they all made a note to stay within this super feminine theme that made each woman appear as if she were on a cloud (this is not to say that some people didn't get the memo and venture out on their own; however, those who ventured tended to miss the mark a bit). I love the boldness and the sweet subtlety as well.

Finally, Renee was not only the one that tried her hand at green! A few women embraced this color which is extremely rich looking. I am hoping to get a few pictures of the hints of green that ran through this event. Renee definitely made an interesting choice in selecting this color and it's nice to see that others picked up on this theme as well.

The Golden Globes is only a hint of what we can expect for future awards shows but it's nice to see that we are off to a great foot and we'll have tons of pictures to look at as more become available online.

Take One Down & Pass it Around ...

Today was an awesome day. In the fashion industry you have your Fashion Weeks which dictate what designers have created and give you an idea on how your outfit can be runway or realway. In this next area are tradeshows which give you a heads up on items that you see now which will be in stores in the later portion of the year. Today, I was able to go to the Accessories Show at the Javits Center! It's too exciting to see so many fabulous products that are carried by showrooms and the designers and reps that are involved. So between this blog and the other one, See Pretty Things, there will be some exciting items posted over the next few weeks within the fashion scene.

In addition to this, for those of us that love fashion whether we are in the industry or simply love drooling over fabulous finds, you find that your money goes out for a variety of magazines. Literally, I have enough magazines to invite a few friends over and we could all have an issue for the current month to look at. How many times do I visit newsstands, bookstores and my favorite, Universal News to get my finds? Today, I found a site that I wanted to share which allows you to get your favorite magazines direct, at the site aptly named, Mags Direct. People ask me my favorite must have mags, here is my list: W, W Jewelry, The Daily, Domino, Lucky, Ocean Drive, NYC Moves, Interview, Gotham and from time to time I pick up various International Vogue's. I know that some of my titles could be found at Mags Direct so I will definitely check it out as I renew my subscriptions and keep myself fashionably informed!

Fashionable Fun

Is it just me or has anyone else had even the slightest bit of difficulty getting back into the swing of things? The holiday brought a little insanity by making us do a million things at one time while giving us an excuse to not work on other things. Now with the holidays and federal days behind us, we have to get back into the swing of things. In addition, this is a great time of year when the fashion cycles kick in. As I was out and about during the holidays we were all excited to attend the shows, trade shows and more and when it was time to relax it was great to go to the lounges, spa parties and poker games. Poker??? Yes, if you didn't know it just like women are increasing their spending within purchasing sports merchandise, they have started to have been apart of increased sales within the gaming industry. Last season when I was in Victoria's Secret I saw that they had the cutest poker set for when the girls want to play and I would imagine that someone could pair this with some martinis and such!

So since this is becoming a huge phenomenon, this has encouraged me (yes I am a non card playing kind of girl) to want to learn how to play so that I can play with the boys and girls. Although I could take classes, I am a fan of being online and suggest that you check out Party Casino. What a great site to teach you about various games, they have poker and you can play this no matter what you're wearing for the day or the night. In addition to poker (I have attended a lot of casino nights where their have been a lot of games that were fun to watch but I was totally clueless), there are a lot of fun games of interest that you can become a pro on - Backgammon, Blackjack and the slots. How fun to try your hand at everything and be able to get your earnings through direct deposit and of course just like we should be responsible when choosing our outfits to avoid wardrobe malfunctions, we should also utilize responsible gaming whether we play alone or with friends - Party Casino seems to be a great entertainment tool. If I get better at this I may want to host my next fashion event with a gaming theme and let people try their hand at the tables!

It's Almost the End of 2006 But Fashion Blazes On

Oh it's almost the end of the year and as sad as it is, it has been an interesting year and one that has us looking forward to what new items will be on the catwalk! So of course as many of you know, I run a lot of fashion blogs but this one always holds a special place so over the next few days I will be posting various runway shows and I have also obtained passes to attend a variety of events that will give you guys some interesting items to read on here and of course I encourage you to visit my other blogs to see what's going on over there as well!

This post turns to Polish designer Maciej Zien who presented her dramatic designs in Warsaw, Poland December 19th. Isn't it nice to know that as many of us bustled through the streets or online looking for our gifts - runways were still being accessed as designers placed their visions on them? Maciej is a new designer to me but I love the designs below!

There is something very old world about this ensemble and yet there is a supreme sexiness to it as well. I love that it's see through while not seriously revealing any opportunity for a wardrobe malfunction!

I must say that of the three designs pictured here, this one is my favorite by far and yes I could see a wardrobe malfunction here but I love the color and tone of this. There are many ways to wear this into real way versus runway. A cute lace cami would be a way to wear this as you're out and about. Pair this with some beaded shoes and super short shorts - very South Beach and sexy!

The "Lady in Red" is a great movie and there is something about wearing the color that people turn heads. Anytime you play with symmetry that can also work in your favor as well. This dress is perfect for a night out, a gala or any event that you feel the need to be noticed!

Fashion is Not Just Secluded to Runways and Showrooms

I love to bring the runways of the world to the Blogosphere. There is something about creativity and seeing how designers interpret what they see into something else. At the same time, I find myself wondering about the source or the beginnings of the fashions that we now currently wear in different translations. This has encouraged me to want to visit older cities and to see this fashion sense exude from the very architecture that surrounds you. Today I learned about Bath which is apart of Britain. From what I have gethered from this interesting site, it is a place where Jane Austin frequented (I would consider her a style icon). In addition, at the American Museam starting this Spring (since this space is only open during portions of the season), it has an exhibit entitled American Heiress to Peeress in late Victorian and Edwardian Britain. This exhibit shows how women in America came to be apart of the Bath experience including Jennie Jerome Churchill - Lady Randolph Churchill (Churchill's mother) and Consuelo Vanderbilt - Dutchess of Marlborough. Although you can see these iconic women via their writings and drawings, there is a portion that shows Nicole Kidman and Uma Thurman wearing their gowns. This is how fashion truly jumps and reflects its place in history. I have always wanted to go and see period clothing in these preserved cities; however, now that I know of a location - I truly have a destination. For those that may go in groups or may not be interested in the fashion side, there's a lot of tours you can take to see the bustling city. I think Bath is a great place to start venturing. Take a moment to visit the site to see what Bath and related cities have to offer in Britain as travel destinations and of course you can see many fashionable items from the past and today.

Bells Ringing in A Distance

I love the holidays, it allows you to relax a little more and to catch up with friends and family. At the same time, it makes you think of fabulous things that you want to bring into the Spring. One of my very good friends is getting married which is exciting and I am hoping to help her plan a fabulous Spring Wedding and to do a little blogging about it within a new blog that will be officially launched during the spring! Although the focus of the blog is about resorts and the nightlife and day to day activities that surrounds it - a wedding in this locale begs to be shared on here as well! I have never planned a wedding; however, I have started compiling some resources and being an Internet person, I found a great site, Party Pop that lets you have a little less stress by being able to get items such as cards, souvenirs and more! Even if you opt to get all your necessities on a variety of sites or in physical stores, it's nice to start seeing your options in a relaxing environment to begin setting your parameters, prices and more. Party Pop seemed to be a great place to start especially since I am only helping as a planner. Even if you're not planning a wedding, it's also a great site for any occasion that you might be interested in celebrating - it could be a Margarita party among a few friends as you showcase your own line in a mini fashion show - check out the site and pass it on to friends that may need a little assistance.

Nan Kempner: American Chic @ The Met

Amazing things are going on all over this blog and others that I am associated with. Although See Pretty Things has many posts on there, I can never be without Kitten Couture Blog for too long, it's the original and what lead the way to all the things that I write about. In that vein, when you think about classics and what leads the way, I have amazing pictures from the Nan Kempner: American Chic event at the Met that were taken and attended by Julie of Coutorture! I love being apart of this network to either be apart of fun events such as Lucky Shops (had fun bulking up my closets at a discounted price) or simply getting great footage of an event.

At this event, there were a variety of pieces exhibited that reflected many of our classic designers and I must say that it's breathtaking and I would have loved to see this in person during this event! For more pictures, take a click on the title link to see more items!

This amazing piece by Valentino is absolutely stunning and gives "lady in red" an entirely new meaning. Although in my normal day to day activities I would be a tad overdressed in this ensemble, we all could imagine wearing something like this to a special launch or fabulous gala.

This YSL dress reminds me of something that is geisha related. I love learning about these women and something I learned was that in Japanese culture, they felt that seeing the lower arm pouring tea or seeing their neck area was something of a sensual element. I think that this idea relates to this dress. I love that it is a sweeping dress and that this neck detail is delicate and yet very sexy.

I love the idea behind this outfit. I love the dress and the sheer cape. Another fabulous YSL ensemble and the color is so rich that anyone would look regal wearing this. Seeing these pieces and the statements that they make inspires you as you design. I think regardless of what we design or purchase, we want to wear something that makes a statement about what we are or where we are going. This exhibit has so many of these looks that it's fun to take a few moments and check it out!

Sharing the Love

Since I blog a lot about fashion, I get a lot of information and questions about people in the business that can be used to further their career. I love to pass on the information that I learn so it can help you or someone that I know. When you think about getting a photographer or anyone that will be enhancing your look book as a model or even a designer, there is a lot of research involved so don't leave it as a last minute decision but if you know of great people and want to pass it along, let me know and I will post it as an option! Today, I present a photographer that I think you guys should know about - Casian Photography. Casian is in Orange County and definately takes a variety of pictures that are useful to those in the industry from headshots, commercial, glamour and more. In addition if you are in the area and are getting married, take a moment to visit his site and look at his wedding pictures.

Thankfully, I love that he actually lists his rates and packages which allows you to really decide if this is something that you would be interested in. I know that as I built my book and even as a designer, you fell in love with work that you saw online and held your breath as you sent and email or made a phone call to see whether you were properly budgeted for the photographer that you wanted. In addition to choosing a photographer, I would also suggest (when you can) that you think about relationships. I have a photographer that I use for my jewelry, Jens who does everything for Kitten Couture. I can't tell you how many times I needed pieces pictured and how comfortable I felt when I emailed him to do a quick turn around! This is great for those situations when you need that one look to book a gig or impress an agent!

The Lux Fashion World Show Hits Beirut Runway

Love love waking up and looking at what amazing finds are around the world! You can never have enough runway shows and this Lux Fashion World Show brings the best to runways of Beirut. With so many pics to choose from, it's hard to settle on just four; however, these are my favorites!

Hani El Buheiry, an Egyptian designer presented this amazing outfit on Nov. 8th. I love the color and the slit; therefore, this makes this dress my favorite look of the four pictures. Of course, this would be perfect at a private party in South Beach.

Hani does it again with this beautiful wedding gown! I love the veil and the intricate beading as well. Seriously, you could dedicate an entire blog to amazing wedding gowns that I have been seeing throughout the Internet. This is a very regal dress.

The look above and below, are both created by Lebanese designer Nicolas Gibran. Lately, I have been into the mocha/cappucino color. I love this genie/harem look as an evening gown. It seems so light with a lot of emphasis on the upper part of the gown.

There are a lot of looks by Nicolas in this shot; however in the foreground, I love the corset dress - love the rich look and the beading. In the background to the right, there is a dark bown dress with the deep 'V' in the front - this is also a great look!

Chocolate Rocks the Runways

This weekend is probably one of the best weekends in NYC. I would put this up against last week's marathon (I have friends who have pics of Lance Armstrong in the race) and of course with Thanksgiving around the corner, we have the parade of all parades; however, the second weekend in November has quickly become synanomous with Chocolate. The Chocolate Show began on the 9th with an amazing fashion show and continues with tastings and bits of education on the finer points of chocolate. In fact, on my other blog I posted about Sweet Bliss who is a vendor at this show. Owner Ilene was the personal chef to Ralph Laruen and is known for making her 'Pumps and Purse' collection. Anyway, what I love about this show is the runway. I love the idea of incorporating design and chocolate. Every year the outfits become even more amazing.

I love the concept of a female Mad Hatter with this European look. I can only imagine how heavy that hat must have felt.

The kimono look has always been an elegant look and in the past few months, much like the tunic, it has completely invaded our fashion senses. I love this robe (yes made of chocolate) and the fan is perfect!

Ah a little old world elegance. I'm so loving the parasol and the Victorian elements of this outfit.

I'm Loving Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai

It's nippy out there (although I must say that I am seeing a lot of stylish winter ensembles) but, it's nice to see that in other parts of the world people are wearing fabulous summer outfits. That's what's great about the fashion world, you're always a season ahead of yourself! In that vein, I present Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai, India. All designs that are included within this post are from French designer Nathalie Garcon.

I LOVE this look. This is a very southern belle look and I love the hat - very Scarlett O' Hara. I remember when I was in South Beach. I also love this shirt material as well which looks very roomy. What a great profile.

Love love this outfit. I could so see this on the beach of a resort town or facility. I love the matching bag (so nice when you have a match as opposed to a random beach bag). You can go to your favorite cafe with a mimosa as you sit on your preferred beach with glass in hand. I also love the colors and the material. In addition I love the long skirt which I would assume is a wrap or a sarong.

I love denim outfits that can serve a variety of purposes. You could wear this for a night on the town, brunch with the girls or a number of affairs. I love the red lacy corset top. What really makes this outfit stand out is the jacket which has great details and I love its princess lines as well.

This is my FAVORITE outfit of the collection. I love the colors and I love the style I feel that it has elements of that gypsy bohemian vibe. Once again, I would so wear this in South Beach. As you can see there are two different looks - one is the full dress but I like the one that is more of a bra with the low slung skirt. I would pair this with sandals that wrap up the leg. As far as the necklace - wear a cameo in the ruby tones very hot. As always, thanks Yahoo! pictures for providing fabulous pictures!

Mumbai Brings it at Fashion Week

Fashion Week never ends - somewhere on this planet someone is presenting the next best thing. Right now, it's Mumbai and between November 3rd and 4th there have been fabulous fashion that have appeared on the runway.

Designer, Pria Kataria Puri presented at one of the Lakme Fashion Week Shows and I love this dress. I love flirty and fun pieces and this dress is perfect to attend a wedding, a cokctail party or any event that you need to shine. The swing factor of this dress is absolutely fabulous and I love the details that make this sparkle even more.

Pria does it again and I love this dress. The colors are earthy and I love the simple lines of this dress. I love the wrapped waist belt with the stones in it. Once again you can wear this dress at so many places even a night in the Meat Packing District as well.

Olive is hot! I like the little hat and I love the kimono style outfit as well. It definately has that showstopping effect. I could see this being worn to a charity event or special dinner, Seema Khan, who is the designer of this piece and the picture below definately knows how to generate the wow factor.

This is my favorite dress I love the pattern. Once again I like the earth tones of this piece and the bohemian look to it. I would wear this to an opening, a cocktail party or a launch for one of my fashion events or someone else's.

For My Summer 2007 Brides, I Present ....

A friend of mine is getting married next year and I believe that there are others out there who are also getting married. SO in that vein, I am presenting a series of dresses that were presented at the Spring/Summer Fashion Week show in Madrid on November 4th.

Spanish designer, Las Novias Boutique has a beautiful strappless gown. What I love about this is the veil which has beading on the trim which is seen throughout the body of the gown.

This gown look like feathers to me on the bottom, I believe i's probably tulle or something to that effect but it reminds me of walking through a cloud. I love the back detail of the dress which is essential. When you think about it, people see you from the back while you are taking your vows so you should have something that is very ornate so that people can whisper about how fabulous you look.

My favorite gown is the one above by Spanish designer Novissima. I love the beige color bow that ties in the back and can imagine that as you walk down the aisle the material flows like liquid. I love the strapless look and of course you'll look like a princess and a movie star in one.

Bangkok Rocks Out at Elle Fashion Week in Thailand

Back in Bangkok, Sunday was a fabulous day as all eyes were on the Elle Fashion Week in Thailand. I would have loved to have attended this event because there were so many designs that depicted simple lines and lots of color.

Designer, Nagara, has a beautiful outfit that is simple, elegant and edgy all in one look. My favorite piece is the silver buckle - the entire dress feeds into this piece. I don't think I would wear tights with this dress (although I know that this is the look that everyone is going for) but this is a great summer piece for parties and brunches on the beach. Whether you go to the Hamptons, South Beach or own your island - you'll look fabulous.

Nagara once again shows how simplistic can be fabulous! My favorite in this collection is the one that the model is wearing on the left. I love the one shoulder look (once again not loving the types but I understand the statement). If the one shoulder look isn't your thing or you can't decide, the look on the right is just as beautiful and I love the color!

Boudoir is the designer that created this fabulous duo look. Let me say that I LOVE this. One the hats are cute and I love the tights or socks that they're wearing as well. This is cute and fun and still sexy as well. I am definately going to look into more items from this designer. It's just as important to look fabulous on the outside as it is underneath. It doesn't have to be boring and Boudoir definately makes that statement. I believe that I love the red but of course I would love the navy as well.
