New Jewelry Added to Kitten Couture ...

It's here! New jewelry has been added to Kitten Couture! Now we are always looking to add great pieces BUT seeing that they are handmade with love, we wanted to make sure that you guys had something to look forward to. Every month you can expect to see a certain stone/color showcased. This month we are in the sneak peek period for June, so we are all about MAUVE. You'll find a variety of pieces being added over the next few days to kick off this new portion of the collection. Make sure that you sign up for the emails so that you can get exclusive offers about new pieces or those that are currently on the site. Towards the end of the month you will also learn about the next month's color as well - something to look forward to. Of course since these items are handmade (with much love of course), there are variations so they will not look exactly like that which is pictured on the site. But you can expect that they will be delivered to you and that they will include the porcelain, glass blown and additional beads that were depicted on the main site. If you have any questions, just ask me and keep your eyes on the site as well!!

Tavalon Tea ... The Future?

So today started out absolutely amazing. Not only did I get in some yoga but I also got in a little belly dancing. After this, I felt the need to try a new place - something tasty. So, we all remember when I talked about LOVING Herb + Ginger which has those amazing tea accessories and teas that can be purchased online? NYC has an AMAZING tea shop as well in Union Square called Tavalon "The Future of Tea".

Located on 14th between 5th and University, this tea shop is like a comfy lounge complete with a DJ and also knowledgeable staff as well. I loved that they had tastings outside and of course being someone who is extremely visual, I thought their displays of teas that you could purchase in larger quantities were presented well. After looking at the extensive tea mix, I decided that I would try the Tropical Peony, which is white tea with a tropical blen of pineapples and conut. All of their mixed and remixed teas are available as a hot or iced (add .50) option which is awesome.

The guy behind the counter which was super sweet suggested that I pair this with a pineapple bar. That wasn't what I had a taste for after I saw mini green tea cookies. Each one was .75 or 3 for $2. As a whole, this tasty treat came to $5.25!! My 12oz drink was only $2.75 (they have a 16 and 20 oz option for all teas). It almost seemed like my tea just appeared. Everything is so sleek and minimal that you don't see what happens behind the scenes. Your drinks appear to come from behind the scenes. Also, they have a liquid sugar which was a lot better than having granulated sugar that tends to clump towards the bottom and doesn't really get absorbed by the drink itself.

While I waited, I was interested in seeing that the baked items come from local establishments such as Balthazar, 'wichcraft, Rice to Riches and Amai Tea and Bake House (this is where the green tea cookies came from and seriously they were the best I ever had). In addition, I saw that local yoga studios must have also partnered with this boutique tea house since their literature was there as well. I think that this is a must to visit and I was impressed. Since my boyfriend lives in this area and I am always shopping around and visiting Wholefoods, I will make sure to stop in here at least once a week and more once the weather gets even warmer. Their blends seem to be great. If you are not in NYC and will not be here anytime soon, make sure that you stop by their website and order their teas and accessories online!

My Travel Life ...

So, I was reading my emails this week and saw that someone had checked in on my blog. She explained that she loved my site and wanted me to contribute to her travel blog. I wasn't sure so I just checked it out, surprise surprise when I realized that this place was a GREAT idea. My Life of Travel is a travel based blog of sorts where you can share places you have been to and what you liked about it. As you build this Travel Journal, there are locations on a map that are added. Some people that are world travelers could have a lot of locations on their map. If you ever wanted to have your own map, you could simply have one on this site without all the little pin holes that you would normally have on your wall. I think this is a great site and love that you can do surveys about the places you visited and you could post pics. If you are interested, check out my site on this website and then sign up for your own space to talk about your travels. This makes me want to put more of my vacations up but it's very late!

Eeeeeee!

Ok so you know when you read comic strips, the characters get frustrated and say "Aargh"? I've never been an "Aargh" type of girl but sometimes you can yelp out a high pitched squeal every now and then. So at this moment I felt compelled to relieve some stress and just share a few thoughts that were on my mind. Why is it that seems when you are prepared to take on a task, that more pop up with equal importance? I'm on that brink where you know a lot of great things are going to happen, but it's going to take a lot of work and it will happen all at one time.

On one side, I am quickly becoming a true home owner. Soon I will be knee deep in cosmetic changes, a little gutting and buying new furniture and appliances that I previously didn't have a need for. I love this idea because being someone that has always been visually inclined, this will be my first serious attempt at enhancing a blank canvas and living within my own art (could be scary but at least I can make changes if I don't like it - although I won't have a lot of time). I am also eager to take on components like having a yard, porch and all the little things that were taken for granted when I lived in Indiana (having a little green between my toes for the summer will be nice). Did I mention that throughout the entire vacation with my adorable boyfriend, that I seemed to be salivating over every home decor magazine?? In about a month or so I should be moved in - which allows for more room for me, my loves (clothing, jewelry, shoes, etc) and my baby love Kitten Couture. Am I freaked at all these additions and room for it ... nah.

Baby love - Kitten Couture. This is a hungry baby that needs lots of time for creation and agonizing over which pieces can go forward (if you though packing for a vacation for the beach was hard, try thinking about what the new collection will be like and if the niche markets will like it), needs lots of attention (how many shoots can I get it in and press will write about it) and it simply needs a lot of direction (where I want Kitten Couture to go and what branding is appropriate for it). I have events in the works that are being finalized which makes her fall re-entry all the more exciting but the time seems to be slipping between my fingers!! It's an amazing feeling to take on something bigger than yourself and to create something out of nothing but on the same side, it's the perception of the creation and everything that comes from its showing. Right now if you don't have plans for October, how about attending Shecky's Girl's Night Out! This will be a great shopping event and of course you will get to see Kitten Couture with its new collections, jewelry and more (yes the new jewelry will be posted on the site very soon).

What else is out there? Ah - turning the big 2-7! How could I forget about that gem? I'm actually excited about this one. I think I want to have a sizeable bash. I want to get all the friends that I have acquired throughout the years including recent friends that have helped me with this line and just been there to hear me ask questions and more.

Of course there are many other little things that make me wonder about my direction. I think it's funny how just choosing one option creates a series of scenarios that would have never had to be looked at. At the same time you balance between the reality that exists now and the one that is fast in coming but still needs some elbow grease. Today I have been working between getting prepared with the business side and not procastinating. So of course I began to read blogs from who else but those in the beauty and fashion industries. I was amazed at how everyone has gone about building their dreams and how they have advanced. I also learned how a step forward sometimes seemed like a step back until opportunity knocked and brought them to a better place. Right now I feel like this is a fashion show. It was always exciting when you got to the venue and were prepped with hair and make-up. There was a little anxiety but, you knew showtime was coming. But then when you were in the wings and waiting to be called up and all lights were meant to be on you, you had that limbo feeling where you weren't sure if everything was just right and you wondered if everything would be fluid once you hit the catwalk.

As I stand on the catwalk waiting for the first step (it's alwaus the semi scariest one but you will yourself forward), I think about how much I have learned and what else I will learn and hope that I meet more in the community that will either directly or unknowingly share a "kernel of truth" that will drive me closer to the eventual goal (that's still crystalizing). Any thoughts out there? I do love the emails, comments and questions. I love hearing from other aspiring/up and coming designers, etc who feel that I have something to share with them to make them more steadfast for the journey. Keep it coming and keep the well wishing thoughts coming. Soon I can post some new jewelry pieces that will be available on Kitten Couture. Of course the line will be as well but it will not be made public unitl later this year (which sucks but know that it is fabulous and that you will definately find something that you will swear up and down that was made with you in mind!). Thanks so much for reading this "moment" and I look forward to seeing you guys at the upcoming events!

Much Love

Rubiglo Turns Heads

Morning Guys,

I love being linked to so many great fashion/beauty sites. You're able to see other stores or products and of course I love purchasing items online. My new find is a great mixture of design and an amazing product. Rubiglo is a natural company that enhances your natural beauty! Jojoba is included within the ingredients of this great little corked urn. I love their powder blush in these amazing urns. It reminds me of something Egyptian. No I have not tried this either but the design of the container and the three tones it comes in (earth, nearly earth, desert rose, gold dust and coral sands). These blushes are great bronzers for the skin!

The amazing news is that this blush can be used on cheeks, eyes, lips and nails?? Apparently when wet, the tones change. This is something that I would be interested in trying and seeing that it's less than $10 dollars, it's worth trying out. Although I had never heard of this company, it has been around for $20 and was introduced in department stores. Much like other products I have mentioned, I will let you know when I purchase it and how it worked. I believe that it would be good for all skin types and tones. Has anyone tried or heard of this? They also have other products that are just as good for your skin that look fabulous.

Designers!!!!

Hi guys,

I am all about linking to designers and getting to know them, especially if you are in NYC! Don't be shy. I think that as a community, it makes us stronger and you never know how you can network in the future for events. I would love to link to you guys and provide a blip. In addition, it allows for people who read this blog or comes from my site to learn more about someone that they didn't know about before! Let's spread the love :).

Tea For Two Minus One!

We lead hectic lives and even when we vow to restrict our activities, they increase! In this effort we strive to take a little "me time" to find our centers so to speak. Sometimes we pamper ourselves with mani and pedis, have drinks with friends or sit on our balconies and watch the world below. My new thrill is to go to tea houses. I have two faves for those that are in NYC Teany and High Chai. Both are great places to relax and try some magnificent teas. For that instance, you feel like a million bucks and as if you have gotten a tad bit healthier! But what happens when you go home??

How about having your own tea set and to find some great blends to boot? I thought about this after reading Domino (great magazine from the publisher's of Lucky but it happens to be for the home). I saw that within the April issue, they had a segment on creating tea rooms. I thought that it was so cute that I wanted to turn my sunroom (remember I am still renovating a house) into my own tea room. I would love to have a few sets but I found one that would be perfect just for me when I want to enjoy a cup without anything else but cool breezes and silence.

Herb + Ginger has a super cute site that sells loose tea AND has some really cute sets. I have not tried these on my own, but in my effort to support those that are indie companies and presenting great products, I know that this will be something on my list. So as far as my "wishlist" would go - here are my pics. I am all about Asian Fusion and this set is perfect with a really crisp celeron (cute green) color. The 'Thé Vert Tea Mug' which is $11.95, reminds me of the cups that you would find at Japanese restaurants - very easy to handle sitting on a cute chaise. The little sugar bowl, Thé Vert Covered Sugar which retails for $19.95, has the same Asian look and is a perfect compliment to the mug and of course to the Thé Vert Teapot which is $49.95. These are great items to enhance your tea experience and after looking at the sites tea offerings, I would definately be interested in trying the Rooibos Teas. They are from South Africa and have antioxidants in them (very healthy) and the tea blends seem so refreshing. My choice (if I were purchasing them right now based on their names) Hawaiian Vacation, Island Fantasy or Queen's Caramel.

Memoirs of a Glam Girl

Ok ladies, I am all about living it up in a casual life style - isn't that how the modern glam gal is? We can all be glam in our own way and this is why I have fallen in love with the Kimono. It's Old World (no not Old School) elegance and makes the most casual outfit glamorous. And as you know, I love anything that moves with you and makes it easy to shop, visit your favorite places and of course hanging out with your friends!

Now the kimono can be worn for an amazing night on the town. The first picture is from Bebe and is only $69. I love the chocolate tones and how sheer it is. All you need is a pair of pants, cute shoes and a simple bag! To jazz it up, you can find a solitary piece for your necklace and just be natural!

Nieman Marcus is currently displaying the kimono that is perfect for running errands - until you hear that your girlfriends are meeting for drinks. Once again, chocolate tones and a little embellishment. It definately doesn't look like you're trying to look glamorous and you can wear it with a pair of jeans and flip flops.

Now, although I am not pregnant, I love this third top! For the glowing mommie to be, Eva Lillian has made the softest looking kimono in a mint color. Simple and elegant for all her needs, this is another way of still being glam while going to Wholefoods, going to Jamba Juice or simply shopping on an amazing spring/summer day.

This is a great look that I think we saw a lot of last summer and trust me - it will be back this year as well. You can even have blank kimonos and embellish them to your style. You can wear them with a variety of pieces, skirts, gauchos, jeans or if they are long enough - a dress.

Eyes Lip Face

eyeslipsface

A year ago (almost to the day), someone asked me to do a modeling event for a revolutionary make-up company called E.L.F. Obviously, I read the acronym and wasn't exactly as excited as my friends were. Once going to their showroom and learning about their philiosphy, I was totally siked! E.L.F. stands for Eyes.Lip.Face. Visit the website and you realize that everything is for a $1. Before you get skeptical, let me tell you how great the products are! The creators of this line have come from a variety of make-up companies, including Hard Candy. Everything from the makeup, many of the applicators and more a $1. They are also packed with nutrients that are great for the skin and the colors are awesome.

After attending the event, we were able to make a selection of pieces and let me tell you I love the High Shine Lip Gloss which simply puts additional shine on top of whatever you happen to wear. The second favorite is the Eye Whip which seriously feels like strawberry or chocolate mousse coming out of a tiny tube. But the shimmer that is created, is amazing.

Now, for those that know me, you know I am a HUGE fan of M.A.C and I would never be found without it. Since attending this event a year ago, I have added E.L.F. to my make up bag and it serves as a fabulous compliment and I think that you should also give it a try!! Click the picture above to look at the full product line.

Kitten Couture Loves Hollywood Party Girl ....

For those that are addicted to their iPods, I just stumbled onto the best podcast! I am an iTunes junkie and I tend to download a lot of music but I happened to get an email from Shecky's (I believe) that talked about this woman in LA who crashed parties, got amazing swag (goodie bag treats) and saw the stars. Lara Morgensen writes a weekly column on E! Online and dishes on the stars and tells you how to get into the industry parties while also getting amazing stuff! Being in NYC, I know how much fun it is to go out to parties and get the good stuff, I really can't wait to go to LA to experience their scene as well. Anyway ... check out her site, listen to her weekly podcast and of course check out her column. She seems very down to earth and you have to love a girl whose quest is to get into the next party!

Speaking of podcasts, I think I would like to jump in on this trend as well, so look for more info on that and of course you will be able to get it on iTunes! Also, let me know what you think about Ms Lara and I'll try to contact her and learn more about her - maybe she will come to NYC and crash a party here!

We love to support other blogs and of course we love those that love us back!! Kitten Couture received a little blurb from the friendly folks at Indie Quarter. They are known for supprting indie designers and letting others know about it. Definately love them and thanks so much for the blurb.
