Estelle Reyna ... Podcast Travel Guide ...

I have a passion for fashion - obviously, those who love my blog are taken to a variety of shows from around the world. But in addition to fashion, I LOVE to travel. My guides for choosing the best destination generally include: Orbitz, Travel Advisor and the Chamber of Commerce or Tourism Board of the specific locale that I am interested in. The other day via surfing on Craigslist, I happened to hear about a new Podcast called Estelle TV.

The first time that I visited this site I was impressed by the number of locations that she went to including NYC, Nashville, Los Angeles and many other spots (and yes she has many international spots that she has Podcasts for)! I wondered what the quality was going to be and I can't give enough praise for the clarity of the picture, great sound quality and the questions that she asks to provide a complete experience. Also, it's easy to find out more information by reading the text that is included within each Podcast. She comes across as a fun, peppy host that could easily be a girl that you would love to go out with for drinks or to add to your next brunch. The amount of entries for this Podcast continue to grow. I can only hope that more cities such as Miami are included because I had hoped to see this since it is one of my favorite places to go. Beyond just visiting a city, there are some Podcasts that have her focus on a particular area such as Chelsea Pier (even more specifc - The Manhattan Kayak Co - even I didn't know that you could go kayaking in the city!).

Estelle is very down to earth in her delivery, looks fabulous and seeing that I am a designer, I would love to send her jewelry and or clothing from my line. If Estelle ever reads this or her people, feel free to contact me at this opportunity. In addition, I would love to see her come and tackle Fashion Week and if she would ever be interested in doing an interview that could be posted here, either a Podcast or a phone interview - I would love to do so! Simply put, your iTunes Podcast is not complete without Estelle Reyna's Travel Podcast!

Sizzling Gold ...

Ok so I had to make it official, I LOVE Brazilian Fashion Week. This could be because I am a resort based designer so anything that goes to that end appeals to me. But in looking at the pictures, I felt that there was sexiness, taking leaps, plenty of sun and serious presentation! Take a look at my previous post on Brazil Fashion Week to see some of that "za-za-zoo"!

This stunning model is wearing Raia de Goeye's design during Sao Paulo Fashion Week. Emerald is an amazing color and is very regal. I love the idea of having this powerful color represented in two ways, one short and one long but sexy all the same!

Miguel Vieira's, a Potuguese designer, definately shows that he has an eye for what's hot! This sleek, flouncy and very flirty presentation is simple while making sure that all eyes would be on you wearing this dress. Without going over the top, it would be something that I would LOVE to have in my closet!

Designer Poko Pano's line also made its appearance at the Sao Paulo Fashion Week Show as well. LOVE LOVE IT!!! I love bathing suits. This extremely sexy and sophisticate take on the classic nautical look is amazing. I love the detail of the knotting on the strips. Plus - how about the bracelets? I had a silver ring that was actually comprised of three rings that were meant to be worn together, made of stirling silver they were squares. I like adjusting the angles to create more depth, which was done on this model as well.

And now as for the presentation, I love the way the designers and models know how to get your attention!

Karla Girotto's designs definately had their place in the heavens at Sao Paulo's Fashion Week. What an amazing way to grab attention while allowing the natural flow of the fabric and initial design to be dictated by the wind. I think that this is innovative without a doubt.

The designer Neon knows how to have a flair for the dramatic. With so many designs to look at at one time, you won't be disappointed!

Regardless of Location, There's Always a Runway

I have been a little caught up with some stuff for my line; however, I went back to my old friend Yahoo! and saw some amazing pictures of runway shows around the world. Seriously the pictures speak for themselves and makes you want to create something that litteraly makes you want to turn on your own runway show! Until then, check out these amazing designers!

Kicking off this post, we start with Germany (one of my best friends is from there and is currently on a very cool circuit so this is like a shout out to her of sorts.

This model presents Kookai at the Creation Premieres Dusseldorf fashion fair in the city of the same name in Germany on July 23rd. This event included submissions from over 51 countries which reflected the spring/summer 2007 collection. Black and white has always been a classic and I like the balance of solids versus prints. I think that this outfit is so versatile and I love seeing how it comes alive!

At the same event, this model is wearing Rocabert. With over 1780 exhibitors, this CPD, began on July 23 and was through the 25th of this month. I love the Chevron style with the balance of neutrals blending with the yellow/orange hints. This is definately a sexy dress that almost has that LBD status. You could wear this to the Hamptons, a surprise party or simply on a day where you need to tell the world that you're a sassy girl with a lot of appeal!

Switching locations to New Delhi, India, we are treated to the Bride and Groom Fashion Show on July 20th. I am a fan of embellishment and detailing so these had to be included!

New Group for NYC Fashion Community ....

If you Yahoo! or have the need to get further connected, this group if for you. Recently, I joined the New York Fashion Exchange! This is a group for those that are designers, models, MUA, photographers and more. The purpose is to come together and utilize one another's resources. Those who need a stylist or hairdresser can find one to complete their project. In addition, those who sign up, do so with the understanding that everyone is working hard to present and complete their photoshoots to increase their portfolio at no cost accept the time and creativity that was necessary to make it all happen! In this era of networking, it's nice to find groups dedicated to this cause and also being able to meet Ms/Mr Emerging Talent before they become famous! For those that are aspiring or on the cusp of something bigger than themselves, this group is definately something that you should join.

New Blog For Those Looking For Resources

Just the other day, I hit an epiphany. Many times I am looking for models, yoga studios, photographers, MUA and a lot more. You never realize how large the fashion/entertainment community is and how many people you need, until you start looking to do something for a photoshoot or a special event. It feels like everytime you have to ask friends, visit Craigslist and more just to get the ball rolling. Then I thought, what if I created a network where it would be a lot easier to find information? This way, I am helping out others and we can help one another out with clarification, resources and more. Please check out Glam Guide which will serve as a means to learn about people that are great go to people, building your portfolio and much more. I'm excited about this idea and look forward to seeing it grow and to have any assistance that you may be able to provide!

More Pieces Added

This is super exciting, at Kitten Couture, we have introduced a variety of pieces; however, I would love to present a part of our Limited Edition Collection. I like the idea of knowing that although every piece is handmade, that you may get to purchase something that seriously only 6 people may have - what's the chance of bumping into someone with yuor exact piece on? I had a friend of mine go to Columbia and she brought back an amazing piece to add to necklaces. A few necklaces have a sliced Tagua Nut on them. They come from trees and some are carved to make ornate art work and others are simply sliced to be added on to necklaces. They are dyed and come in a variety of colors. I have released Tagua Nuts that are white in color and have paired them with simple wooden beads. I hope you guys take a moment to check them out and of course, you are more than welcome to purchase one as well. Over the next few weeks, we will be updating and making some tweaks on the site so there should be more items available.

Let's Walk it Out ...

Can there be enough outlets for fashion? I wish that there was a channel dedicated to broadcasting fashion shows, trunk shows, etc from all over the world. It never ceases to amaze me with the amount of creativity that abounds. Once again, I was looking through some AMAZING pictures and found some fav designers dominating the catwalk. So, since I am a fan of Entourage and we all know about "Hugging it Out", it seems that this same mantra was taken to the catwalks of Malta and the models definately walked it out! Once agin a big thanks to Reuters for providing pics that give an amazing glimpse of designers and models coming together to present the best in fashion!

Versace definately had my vote for taking my breath away with the designs. This first look is from the 2006/2007 Autumn/Winter collection during the "Passion for Fashion" at the Malta International Fashion Show on July 15. I love the grey tones and the way that the fabric is draped. Not only is this dramatic but it's a classic - could we expect anything else?

Since I could not choose between the Versace's that caught my eye, I had to post another. If only I could have been there to see this in person!!

How could you possibly present Versace without posting something from Valentino? This striking design was a must to include and is also a part of the same 2006/2007 Autumn collection as well.

Over the next few weeks, I am super excited to see other designers (known to me and not) present their ideals of fashion for the upcoming seasons. Feel free to give me a tip because there are truly so many designers showcasing all over the world that it's easy to overlook an area or simply not know that an event happened there!

Blog of the Moment ...

Everyday I try to embrace a new blog of some sort. So I thought it would be cool to choose a blog that I think is awesome and that everyone should take some time out to check on it. Because I must admit that I read Craigslist everyday, I can relate to some of the random things that The Wild World Of CL reflects on. We have all looked on here for something new, slightly used, an event, job, etc. Craigslist and MySpace come up so much that it definately has a place in pop culture at this point. I know that this is a new blog but it has a lot of potential and I think that it will seriously catch on. There's humor, irony and the blush factor when you realize that if you know what's going on on this site and you know the people that are being talked about, you just may be addicted to CL!!!

Brazil vs. Italy?

Yes, I am well aware that soccer is over and that Italy took it all during FIFA's World Cup; however, on the catwalk, both countries are running neck and neck! This afternoon's posts showed great designers in Brazil's Sao Paulo and tonight while Brazil continues to strut the runways, another country has begun to show their fashion sense as well. Pictured below is a model sporting Agua de Coco's collection during today's shows at the Sao Paulo Fashion Week. This picture is courtesy of the AP.

Today in Rome, the AltaRoma Fashion Week showed such designers as Lebanese Abed Mahfouz. Pictured below are two pieces from his Fall/Winter 2007 collection. Once again kudos to the AP. Seriously, you could spend hours looking through one great picture after another! The endless amount of creativity that is presented at the shows is truly phenomenal!

New York Moves Magazine Event

Last night, my boyfriend and I went to a New York Moves Magazine "Inside Party" event sponsored by Range Rover Manhattan, Bombay Sapphire, Pom and more. When we get some pictures and info I will let you guys know. What a great rooftop party to go and mingle with others from such a wide demographic. We met cool photographers, brokers, fashionistas and a lot more. The time definately flew by! New York Moves is for the career oriented woman in NYC. They do so many events throughout the year as well. Click the title to go to the site and you can actually 'flip' through their mag online and you can buy it at a variety of locations around town as well.

Sao Paulo Fashion Week

In my love for fashion and reaching out to other designers and areas and as many of you know, I am a resort designer - I had to share this! Sao Paulo is having their fashion week right now and yesterday MANY designers tore up the runway with their creations. To be honest, I am not familiar with many of the Brazilian designers so I will be updating this information with a website, names, etc but look at how hot these styles are! Simply browsing through these pictures has made me begin a new quest - get to know a lot more of these designers! One of my best friends is Brazilian and I hope to attend one of these shows soon and visit the shops as well. The above picture is a performance with models during Fause Haten's collection.

This is a close up of a Cia Maritima bathing suit.

I LOVE bathing suits and this is something that I want to introduce into my line. Once agin this is Cia Maritima which I have to add her as one of the designers that I would definately love to have her items in my closet. Model, Yasmin Brunet struts her stuff in this summer collection.

The address above which I would totally wear because it's hot and playful was designed by Iodice and is apart of the summer collection.

**Update**

There is a great blog called Made in Brazil which covers all things Brazilian. He has a post that lists all of the designers that will appearing. There will be a lot more pictures since the shows last through the 18th. I will continue to update when I find new sites. Of course, you can always visit Fashion Week Daily because they have coverage or you can always look at Getty Images to see what they have posted as well. The above pictures are courtesy of th AP which were found via Yahoo!

Miuccia Prada Waist Down Event, Beverly Hills

So, once again I am addicted to getting images from a variety of fashion shows and saw that in Beverley Hills there is an exhibit dedicated to skirts from the waist down.

Pictured above is Molly Sims and Eva Mendes. This six week event pays hommage to Miuccia Prada's collections and was visited last night by a variety of stars including Lindsay Lohan, Dita Von Teese and more. I definately think that this is awesome and if you are in the area, it is open to the public so check it out!!

A Sun Accessory?

Can it be this hot? Ok a few months ago I was all about warm but in NYC there is no way that people can enjoy a nice transition, it's either pretty cold, hot or something odd in between. For us, a transition occurs about a day or so. You have a perfect day and then you have the swing of tremendous weather conditions. Right now we are experiencing heat with a cloudy day or heat with the sun. After hanging out with my boyfriend last night he made a suggestion of something that I should post about - the parasol. I thought that it was a decent idea but in the process of writing this now, it's genius!!!

A few weeks ago (another day with my boyfriend and I being out and about), we had the pleasure of sharing our table with a couple. One of the women carried a fan - not the Brookstone kind that's motorized but the one that ladies from long ago would fan themselves with. It made me wish that in my rather large bag of "must carry" items that I would have a fan. At least it creates a great image and it would make me feel a lot better.

So, with the fan being something that I would definately wish to embrace, it stands to reason that a parasol is not only a great accessory but another way of bringing back that old age elegance into something new. Parasols could be the lacy kind that screams the Victorian age OR you could opt for the ones that looks like what they stick in your daiquiris! I opt for the cool paper kind and they can even help in not only keeping the sun off you but with UV protection included - this is worth carrying around. My boyfriend claims that this will be a trend that we will see in NYC (I have read a lot of blogs in other areas of the world that this has been quite popular). I think if anything I could see it popping up in the village. Hopefully, I will be able to be a part of this trend and can share some pics of this!

***UPDATE***

So this week (this would be on 07.19.2006), I was walking around on a cloudy day in NYC (although instantly it started becoming sunny and amazing) and my boyfriend and I were in the Village. As I had posted earlier on the original post, he came up with the idea for me to assist in bringing the sun parasol to dominance. Well we walked into this shop and they had sun parasols and fans. I wasn't amazed by the parasols but I thought the fans were too cute. I definately felt like one of those ladies from back in the day - cooling myself off with my ornate fan. Noe my fan (courtesy of my cuddlebear) was only $6 - nominal for the idea of being able to push air around; however, I am on a serious quest to get an AMAZING fan. More and more I am seeing people with them and I would like to get a very stylish one. Either way, I'm loving my fan (not as great as my old Brookstone electrical fan - but way cuter) and if you go to the Village you are bound to find a cheap one that's stylish to hold you over until you meet THE ONE.

More Kitten Couture Around the Bend ...

Yes yes this month is the kick off to big things (yes I know there have been a lot of posts tonight and one was a bit ranting - but you have to 'Relax, Relate & Release')! So this month I have my first event that will allow Kitten Couture's Ibisco Collection to emerge!! In conjunction with The Libby Ross Foundation, I will be introducing the Pink Collection which a portion of the proceeds starting in October will go to the fight against breast cancer. This is a great cause and one that I hope you will be a part of in some manner. Many items from a variety of designers will be a part of the store and if you are a boutique that is interested in adding something like this to your site, get in touch with me!

In addition to this event that will be at Redemption in NYC - the unveiling of sponsors .... we have a new color to showcase. The last few weeks was the fabulous Mauve and soon I will launch the new color, this is a great chance to take a look (if you have yet to do so) at pieces in the Mauve collection that are a perfect compliment to this summer and great to carry into the fall. Above I have 'Isabel' which has been REALLY popular over the last few weeks. It's a great blend of Mother-of-Pearl Shell and various handcrafted beads that are Czech, glassblown and quartz. Of course we have other styles and you can see the entire collection for the month of June for more peeks at items available now! Also coming on board will be the SoBe shells but due to their limited availability, we are holding them off just a bit longer. In addition, we have a photoshoot that will be kicking off new pieces, we will launch the picture here and you will see more on the site over the next few weeks. Don't stop checking in, you never know when I will pop on! That's about all for the month of July but seriosuly that's huge as we go into August. Briefly, I will let you know and as we get closer I'll make sure you have all the info you need in order to show your support at the shows, online and beyond!

Next month we have Moda Manhattan (huge trade show - great platform), obviously we will be showcasing another fabulous color and of course the Kitten Couture Trunk Show sponsored by p.i.n.k. vodka which is a great way for those of you in the media, boutiques and buyers to get a chance to see me and the line if you missed us at the shows. Over the next few weeks we will let you know and I'm super excited to share all this news and much more. Once again nothing but hugs there are so many great things going on (and not so great but I suppose this is my learning curve and to be great you have to go through it) and partnerships and even though it's hot outside I can't wait to tell you about holiday - but one day at a time before it all goes too fast!

Grr .. Personal Rant ...

From the get go, I apologize for the rant and the lack of response. Coming off of Fourth of July, dealing with work and the line - plus life in general it can be a bit hard. I have been thinking about this particular topic since Saturday and had the urge to put it out there just to see the words. It's an issue that I know friends of mine and I try to laugh off but at the end of the day we all wonder about it and as people come and go, we know that we are not the only ones that have an issue with this.

What's up with people? Seriously I think that some people do not know how to talk to people (and honestly nonverbal and verbal skills speak volumes so you should make sure you are watching both when interacting with others). I am an avid believer that two people can say the same thing but the delivery can be night and day! Recently, I attended a meeting and although it was meant for everyone to be "on the same page" clearly, we were not in the same library. Although I was not offended, I left feeling a little empty about the conversation and that which was meant to pump me up, let me feel like my options had been slimmed down to one path.

It's so hard to work and have the passion to go to the same place everyday while you work on something that you LOVE. You know how it is, sometimes you work somewhere and you feel literally drained before you even step inside; however, as soon as you leave you feel like you've had all this pent up energy! Even more ridiculous is the ability to come home and work on your passion until the wee hours of the morning - but it's so satisfying and you feel that you have made a semblance of a step. While you work you feel like you're going through the motions and that the smallest thing can be taken out of context. Depending on the stress and interactions at work, you wonder if there is an appropriate outlet to get out your frustrations. Talk among co-workers can be therapeutic but can also turn nasty. Many of your friends are co-workers and this creates an invisible line or at least a zone where you carefully approach certain topics. Finally you have those on the outside that have no idea in regards to the magnitude of your job and how it makes you react in these odd ways. If anything they feel that there is an imaginary switch that alleviates any ill will that you may have felt at one time in regards to the day or week's activities.

Where is the line between coming up with something great that you vow will never feel like work and will maintain positive energy?? Or do you create a masterpiece only to become jaded and to watch it manifest into something that now you are bound by it? We see how people on the news talk about how a company went from 3 dedicated best friends to a multi-million dollar empire that employs thousands of people. Everyone vows to maintain the pillars of the concept - but then things start to spiral out of control and miss the original intention of the business' products/services. Thus, a decision has to be made. To take care of your day to day, people do what they need to do and hope that it will teach them something that they can use on their passion; however, at the very least it must make sense financially, physically and emotionally. But when the equation starts to slip and the feelings become more unsatisfying - all the reason is gone!

The other day I had the pleasure to watch The Devil Wears Prada and although the book and the movie start to go in opposite directions, I love both of them mainly because I see me in Andy and I see that the job depicted has the strange duality of the one that I hold now. An article in relation to the book talked about how my generation feels the need to "have it all" while not paying their dues. I don't think that it's a matter of now wanting to pay your dues. There is a necessity to running back and forth to get something done, to pause before speaking your mind too quickly in certain situations and of course just learning all facets of the position so that you can appreciate it as you move up. BUT there is also a limit. When you know what you want to do and you know that you're doing something as a temporary means you want to feel that not only do you matter but everntually the playing field evens out. You don't want to feel anxious and as if you continue to give on your side while everyone else retains their initial cards. This does make me fight to be independent but it also lets me know that a person does not need to live this way and that there are options and sometimes the learning curve requires that you simply get out of one car to advance to a new challenge that is not only stretching you but more satifying. Of course this could just be a tired rant of someone who wants to "be there already", is turning 27 and wonders how did time seriously slip away so fast?? If you're an entrepreneur out there let me know your thoughts and how you juggle.

Sigh .... Shake it Off

Fashion Week in NYC Around The Corner

I don't know who it was that turned me on to Gettys Images but whichever Blogger it was, THANK YOU. I love the idea of being able to see pictures all over the world and if I am interested in learning the backstory I just google the event and can read about what happened! I say this to say that today I was able to look at the images of Fashion Week in Paris! I didn't realize that it was going on (time is seriously getting away from me) but I love the idea of seeing runway pieces (even those that you know you wouldn't normally see outside) and how it becomes realway or simply fantasy!

Growing up I used to flip through Vogue right alongside my Cat in the Hat book! I loved seeing these creations and wondered what it would be like to have such a gift. Now I can see how it is through my own designs and it's such an amazing feeling to do a show that you may have spent a year on just to end in 20 - 30 mins. It's a rush and totally worth all the mulling and issues that come with it. If you would love to see the masters at work, check out Getty Images and look at Armani, Dior and more work their stuff on the runway and of course see their pics behind the stage as well!

Take a Note on How To Embrace These Styles ...

This summer people are definately rocking that casual luxury style! (As many of you know my day job is at a certain casual luxury men's and women's store on 5th Ave in NYC with shirtless greeters - hmm). After setting the visuals at our store, I see some of the trends that we have out there popping up in other areas. I love these takes on our presenatations! With all the parties and events that we're scheduled for, it can be hard to figure out what to wear. When in doubt, simple, casual and a little bit of style can go a long way. Check out how some stars from recent movie/product premiers have chosen to show their sense of style. Take note and as always style is about taking something that is already out there and extending it to your personal over all look!

At the Priemer of The Pirates of the Caribbean 2, Ashley Tisdale definately looked hot pairing an embroidered tunic top with a belt. This style has started to pop up all over and you know I love the tunics because of an earlier post written earlier this summer (how sad is it that I can say earlier this summer and that we are already in July?). The belt being worn as a high wasted obi brings a sexiness that glams up any outfit. Simply worn with a pair of leggings (I am not a fan of leggings but this outfit shows that you can make it work) makes you ready for rooftop parties, a friends housewarming or a little barbecue.

We can all "Say I", with Christina Milan at the Sidekick 3 Release Party at the Hollywood Palladium (PS loving the new Sidekick and can't wait to upgrade my own). Loving the use of integrating one of this summer's big themes: stripes, nautical motifs, white capris and the big bag. Rarely am I disappointed with her sense of style and fun flirty atmosphere. Take note, wear something like this for brunch, outdoor cafe's for late dinners and a random night when you need to look your sexiest without being too overt about trying to catch the eye of someone special.

Launch of a New Jewelry Color ...

Hiya,

It's been a busy past couple of days but I will be unveiling a new color within the next few days. For those that have been purchasing our Mauve & Shell Collection - many thank you's!! It's awesome to walk down the street and have people stop me and ask where I got this fabulous jewelry and to see their faces when they see that they can get it through the site!! Each month there will be a new color to embrace and love as much as the one before.

As far as odds and ends, check out Yahoo to see where I will be. There is a link so that you can get to the site and of course you can go to the main site at Kitten Couture. We have a lot of shows coming up and right now, I am in the middle of creating some additional events that are holiday specific. How horrible is it that I am already thinking about the winter holidays? But I love that time of the year (nay not the cold) but I love the fact that people get together, love to shop and can enjoy some libations as well. I am coming up with some events in Manhattan but have found that people in Brooklyn were looking for some love so I may set up something there. At this point, I would love to have other designers involved so that I can meet people. If you are interested in getting involved, let me know - I swear I don't bite. Also, thanks for signing up for the newsletters. They don't come out too many times a month but it's a great way of getting to know me and finding out where I will be next. This month is huge because it kicks off my events so I am always interested in finding another place to increase the exposure!

Finally, I also want to send love over to Loves Cool (she makes the amazing green tea cookies that I talked about in the Tavalon Tea Post that I wrote awhile ago). And of course over to Pop Culture Whore NYC. It's definately an awesome blog to check out, I am one of the contributing writers on this blog and I promise to keep writing on there as well no matter how crazy my schedule gets but I wanted to spread the love there as well before I rest for another action packed day!
